In 1986, the Fairview Park Education Foundation established their first scholarship. Since then, we have been awarding scholarships to outstanding Fairview High School seniors. This year, the Foundation proudly awards the following 27 scholarships totaling $29,500:
Fairview Park Education Foundation’s 2023 Scholarship Recipients:
Dr. John Babel Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2016 in honor of the 3rd Superintendent of the Fairview Park City Schools. Dr. Babel was born in upstate New York, and upon his high school graduation he was intent on staying on the family farm. His father encouraged him to continue his schooling, finally pursuing a teaching certificate and later a master’s degree. He was first in his family to attain a college degree and continued to complete his PhD from The Ohio State University. He taught at Cleveland State University for 25 years and was a member of the Rotarian Club for over 35 years. Dr. Babel’s life was changed by those in education, and he believed in the value of lifelong learning.
The $1,000 scholarship is being awarded to a senior who will pursue a career in education.
This year’s recipient is Elise Walters
Elise graduates Summa Cum Laude with a GPA of 4.31. She has selected Ohio University for her future studies. Elise is a member of the FHS Green Team, FHS Student News, Key Club, Student Council and she was inducted into the National Honor Society her senior year. She also was involved in Warrior athletics as a member of the Basketball, Cross Country and Track teams. Elise was a recipient of numerous athletic and academic awards throughout high school and she also earned AP Capstone and AP Scholars honors. Elise is looking forward to a career in education and she states that she “has always had a passion for working with children and having the ability to teach kids and watch them grow as individuals makes the job extremely rewarding.”
Frank W. Barr Memorial Scholarship — Established in 1990 in honor of the 2nd Superintendent of the Fairview Park City Schools who served from 1964 to 1979. Dr. Barr was a member of many professional educational organizations as well as many community groups.
The $500 scholarship is being awarded to a senior who will pursue a humanities and/or liberal arts major at a college or university.
This year’s recipient is June Patton
June graduates Magna Cum Laude with a 3.89 GPA. She has been accepted into the honors program at Chatham University where she will pursue an undergraduate degree in Psychology. After earning her initial degree, June intends to continue her education, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with the goal of opening her own practice. During high school, June was involved in Yearbook Club, serving 2 years as senior editor, and she was a member of Presidents Council while also balancing part-time work.
Mary Lou Chalfant Memorial Social Studies Scholarship — Mary Lou was a social studies teacher at Fairview High School for many years. She was an avid supporter of the Fairview High School arts programs, especially the theater department. She never missed the opportunity to attend a performance during her tenure at the high school. When she retired the scholarship was established.
The $500 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding social studies student who will be pursuing a career in Social Sciences or Social Studies Education or someone who was active in the theater programs at Fairview High School.
This year’s recipient is Hannah Akel
Hannah graduates Summa Cum Laude with a GPA of 4.19. She will be studying Environmental Science at The Ohio State University. Hannah was involved with a multitude of activities while at FHS. She was a member of Stagecrafters, Student Council and National Honor Society. She also excelled in athletics as a member of the Volleyball Team, Swim Team, Track & FIeld Team, and Girls Wrestling Team. Hannah is passionate about the environment, volunteering her time with Cleveland Metroparks and the Certified Watershed Stewardship Program. She plans to use her career in environmental science to help combat the climate change crisis while protecting air and water quality for her community.
Bruce Linden Cherkala Memorial Scholarship — Established in 1991 by the Cherkala Family in memory of their son, Bruce, who graduated from Fairview High School in 1968. While at FHS, Bruce was an honor student, letterman in football and tennis. Bruce went on to graduate from Denison University and then Case Western Reserve School of Medicine with a M.D. degree. Bruce passed away suddenly in 1982.
This $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will pursue science or mathematics at a college or university.
This year’s recipient is Jacob Rehor
Jacob graduates Cum Laude with a 3.5 GPA. He will be attending Adrian College to study Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy and he will be playing college basketball for the Bulldogs. Jacob had a very decorated basketball career at FHS, earning numerous accolades at the Conference, District and State levels and serving as team captain. He also played football and assisted with sports broadcasting. Jacob has given back to the community by collecting school supplies and food for those in need and he also was a youth football coach. After obtaining his degree in Physical Therapy, Jacob hopes to return to Fairview Park to begin his PT career and coach basketball.
Maureen Cundiff Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2007 through donations made by the Fairview Park community and friends for the Cundiff Family. Maureen was a very active person in the community, including being an elected member of the Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education, president of PTA, member of the Gemini Committee and many more organizations. Maureen coached many years of girls’ softball and was an avid softball player herself.
The $500 scholarship is to be awarded to an outstanding female varsity athlete showing great leadership, respect and acknowledgements for outstanding sportsmanship during their sports career. Softball or Cross Country are preferred but not necessarily.
This year’s recipient is Alice Chambers
Upon graduation from FHS, Alice will be attending Bowling Green State University to major in Special Education. During high school, she was a member of Student Council and Student News. Alice was a dedicated student-athlete, participating in Cross Country, Basketball and Track & Field, earning GLC Scholar Honors in each. Alice aspires to be a leader in Special Education, helping children find the right resources and helping parents support their children. As a future teacher, she wants to be involved in the community where she works and she looks up to Fairview Park educators who are engaged with school activities beyond the classroom.
Laura Dean Memorial Scholarship — Established in March 2001 through a bequest of funding from the estate of a former Fairview Park teacher and former Fairview High principal, Laura Dean. Ms. Dean’s teaching and administrative career in the Fairview Park City Schools began in 1929 and lasted for 45 years. Her first assignment was teaching mathematics to elementary students and later serving as the second principal of Fairview High School. It was at her request that scholarships be given to young women pursuing a career in math.
Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year to deserving graduating female seniors pursuing careers in mathematics or in the field of applied mathematics.
This year’s first recipient is Regan Dabran
Regan graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. She will be attending Ohio University in the fall, majoring in Finance. During high school, Regan was a member of Key Club and Student Council. She is a former Irish dancer for many years, before getting involved in Warrior athletics as a member of the Cross Country and Track & Field programs. In the future, Regan hopes to use her Finance degree to work with the money side of a large company, perhaps in the role of an investment analyst or financial analyst.
This year’s second recipient is Eva Koczur
Eva graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.5 GPA. She will study Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University. She was named a National Merit Finalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. She earned a perfect score on her College Board AP Research project and she completed the AP Capstone Diploma. Her AP research perfect score landed her an internship at NASA, where she continues to work part-time. Eva was also active in Key Club, Student Council and was inducted into the FHS National Honor Society. Additionally, Eva is a gifted athlete, excelling in Soccer, Cross Country and Track & Field. As a future female engineer, Eva plans to use her voice and personal experience to show young girls their potential in the field and encourage their participation in male-dominated classrooms.
Shirley Docherty Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2013 by her children, Denise Devine, and David in memory of their mother. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life. Upon graduating from high school, she drew maps for the War Department. After the war, she was employed by NACA (a forerunner of NASA), where she worked as a graphic artist in the Aircraft Engine Research Lab.
The $500 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding art student pursuing a degree in Art/Graphic Arts at a college or university.
This year’s recipient is Shayla Terry
Shayla plans to attend Kent State University where she will pursue a degree in Graphic Design. At FHA, Shayla participated in Volleyball, Track, Golf, and Student News, while also working part-time. Shayla’s proudest high school moment was her artistic talent being recognized through the selection of her design to be used for one of the crossing guard booths in the Community of Fairview Park.
Fairview High School Class of 1971 50th Reunion Alumni Scholarship – Trade School — Established in 2021 through the generosity of the Class of 1971 Reunion Alumni. This scholarship is awarded to a student who was enrolled in the trades at Polaris (i.e., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, welding, machinist, etc.) and who may or may not continue that profession after graduation.
The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be going into the trades (i.e, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, welding, machinist, etc.)
This year’s recipient is Kenton Hopkins
Kenton will be attending Cuyahoga Community College to begin working towards a career as a Professional Pilot. He was active in high school as a member of Key Club, Baseball and Football, where he served as a captain. Kenton has completed the Polaris Welding program and works part-time as a welder, which he will continue to do throughout college.
Fairview High School CLASS OF 1982 Alumni Memorial Scholarship – Established in 2022, in honor of our 40th Fairview High School reunion, to offer a scholarship to a worthy Fairview High School senior in memory of our classmates gone too soon.
The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who was enrolled in the trades at Polaris (i.e., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, welding, machinist, etc.) and who may or may not continue that profession after graduation.
The recipient should have engaged in school and community service and has demonstrated good citizenship.
This year’s recipient is Grant Dalton
Grant will be attending college in the fall to pursue a degree in either Business of Environmental Science. At FHS, Grant was active in Student Council, Environmental Club and was the Polaris Welding Shop student manager. Grant has completed and is certified in 4 types of welding. He also was a member of the Football team and Track & Field team and he was named an Academic Athlete and Great Lakes Conference Scholar Athlete. In the future, Grant aspires to be a future business owner.
Fairview High School Class of 2020 (COVID-19) Scholarship — Established in 2020 by the Fairview High School Class of 2020 After Prom Committee through a donation of funds that were set aside for the Class of 2020 to use towards their prom and after prom. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, students were unable to have the same prom and after prom that previous graduates enjoyed. The After Prom Committee generously donated the money for a scholarship to use towards the college education of future FHS graduates.
The $500 scholarship is awarded to a student with a hardworking spirit who has persevered through obstacles, possibly COVID-19 related. This scholarship honors the many challenges the FHS 2020 graduates endured during their senior year. This scholarship is also for a student who demonstrates financial need.
This year’s recipient is Daniela Gomez
Daniela graduates Magna Cum Laude with a 3.87 GPA. She will be attending Baldwin Wallace University to study Mathematics. During high school Dani was involved in Chamber Orchestra, GSA and JEDI, while also balancing part-time work. She hopes to use her talent in mathematics to support others who struggle with numbers by problem solving, creating monthly budgets and helping in other ways.
Maxine Field Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2016 by the Field children in memory of their mother Maxine A. Field (nee Waack). Maxine was a proud resident of Fairview Park. She graduated from FHS in 1948 where she was head majorette for the marching band. In 1948 she represented Fairview Park and the State of Ohio as Miss Ohio in the Miss America pageant. In 1966, Maxine again represented Fairview Park and Ohio as Mrs. Ohio in the Mrs. America pageant. Maxine was a model and fashion coordinator for many local stores and malls. She also enjoyed singing, dancing and the theater where she acted in many local little theater productions and musicals.
The $1,000 scholarship is to be awarded to a deserving graduating senior who will be pursuing a career in either the fashion industry or music (especially theater, singing and/or dancing).
This year’s recipient is Georgia Ross
Georgia graduates Magna Cum Laude with a 3.89 GPA. She will be pursuing a degree in Exploratory Visual and Performing Arts from Kent State University. Georgia was active in many clubs and activities at FHS. She was a member of the Gymnastics and Bowling teams as well as Student News, Stagecrafters and National Honor Society. She volunteers with the Fairview Park Green Team and has been a member of Girl Scouts for over 10 years.
Dorothy Graab Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2013 by the children of Donald and Janet Graab Miller in memory of their mother Dorothy Graab. After high school graduation, she attended Northwestern University where she majored in chemistry. Dorothy continued to also study piano until college graduation in 1948. She then joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), a forerunner of NASA, as a chemist at the Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dorothy was an active volunteer in civic and community groups. She served as PTA president multiple times and was an elected Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education member, ultimately serving as president. A lifelong lover of music, Dorothy was an accomplished piano player who took great pleasure and pride over the years in supporting the Cleveland Orchestra.
The $750 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is active in one or more music programs but is not necessarily pursuing that at a college or university.
This year’s recipient is Joseph Wasco
Joseph will graduate Summa Cum Laude with a 4.19 GPA. He will be attending John Carroll University to major in Biology; his ultimate goal is to be a doctor. Joey was very active in the FHS music and theater departments through Stagecrafters, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band. He was Co-President of the Band and Co-captain of the Academic Team. He played Baseball and was a member of the Swim Team, volunteered through his church, and also worked part-time. Joseph earned the honor of AP Scholar with Distinction and was awarded the AP Capstone Diploma.
Judson Graab Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2013 by the children of Donald and Janet Graab Miller in memory of their father Judson Graab. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he majored in chemistry. Judson’s time at Ohio Wesleyan was interrupted by his service in the US Army during World War II. Upon graduation from college in 1948, he joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), a forerunner of NASA, as a chemist at the Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Judson remained at NASA for his entire career, serving as the longtime head of the analytical chemistry department where he retired in 1978.
Judson was also part of the team of parents who created the Fairview Park Band Boosters and established the annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast. Upon his retirement, Judson worked in the Fairview High School auto shop as a volunteer. His continued support was acknowledged by the Fairview Park Education Association with their Friend of Education Award in 1992.
The $750 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will pursue a degree in the sciences, preferably chemistry at a college or university.
This year’s recipient is Bridget Camarillo
Bridget graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.47 GPA. She will be attending The Ohio State University to study Biology and Pre-Dentistry. Bridget was a member of Yearbook Club, Ski Club and Environmental Club. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and was Vice President of Key Club. Her academic talent has allowed her to earn the AP Capstone Diploma, AP Scholar Award and National Technical Honor Society recognition. Bridget’s ultimate professional goal is to partner with non-profit organizations such as Dentistry from the Heart and Charitable Smiles to bridge the gap of oral health disparities in low-income and underprivileged demographics.
Fred J. and Betty J. Helwig Memorial Scholarship — Established in 1999 and fully funded by the Helwig children to honor their parents. The scholarships are awarded to hard-working students who demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, and a desire to succeed even though they have life changing obstacles they are presented with.
In addition to the scholarship award, the scholarship recipient’s names will be added to a permanent plaque that hangs in the Fairview High School halls to commemorate this award.
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded and are renewable for up to a maximum of four years of college.
This year’s first recipient is Natasha Bruner
Natasha graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.14 GPA. She will study Psychology at The University of Wisconsin Madison, with the goal of attending medical school in the future. Tasha was a member of the FHS Volleyball, Soccer and Swimming programs. She also participated in Student Council, Key Club and Academic Team, while working part-time. Natasha’s professional goal is to positively impact the mental health of others through her work as a future psychologist.
This year’s second recipient is Hailey Moltz
Hailey will graduate Cum Laude with a 3.66 GPA. She will study Sociology and French as an undergraduate and aspires to attend Law School in the future. Hailey has a multitude of talents and interests which allowed her to be heavily involved in many clubs and activities at FHS. These include: Key Club, Academic Team, Stagecrafters, and International Thespian Society. Additionally, she was a member of the Golf, Bowling and Track & Field teams. She is a GLC Scholar Athlete, AP Scholar, Golf MVP and has earned the Ohio Department of Education Honors Diploma. As a future attorney, Hailey’s goal is to aid people, mainly children, and help protect them under the law.
Jeanne and Michael Holick Memorial Scholarship –Established originally as the Michael Holick Memorial Scholarship in 2008 by the Holick Family in memory of their father, Michael. The scholarship is also in memory of their mother Jeanne, who passed away on October 15, 2021.
Jeanne and Michael were married for 56 years and raised four children in Fairview Park. All their children were graduates of Fairview High School and Baldwin Wallace College.
Jeanne was a graduate of the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music and taught piano in Fairview Park until she was 86. She was a great advocate of music programs at Fairview High School and local venues and always enjoyed concerts and plays.
Michael’s talents as a master finish carpenter for 56 years are appreciated today as he is responsible for building his family home and homes for his children in Fairview Park. In addition, he rebuilt the corner of West 204th Street and Lorain Road. He was also involved with many buildings, renovating and remodeling projects in the Cleveland vicinity. Michael was an active member of the Carpenters Local Union 1108 and the memory of his talents, love and support of his family and pride in his city will shine forever.
The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be going into the trades or has been active in one or more music programs in their high school career.
This year’s recipient is Bailey Bowles
Bailey graduates Magna Cum Laude with a 3.95 GPA. She will pursue a degree in Visual Communication Design/Graphic Design at Kent State University. During her 4 years at FHS, Bailey was involved in Concert and Marching Bands, Yearbook Club, Stagecrafters, International Thespian Society, Tri-M National Honor Society, FHS Student News, and GSA. Bailey was also a Warrior athlete participating in Volleyball, Track & Field and Bowling. She served as Vice-President of the Band, Vice President of International Thespian Society and Editor of the FHS Yearbook. As a professional graphic artist, Bailey hopes to use her talents to work for a firm that is dedicated to social advocacy.
Harold L. Hom Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2022 by the Hom Family in memory of Harold L. Hom who passed away on September 5, 2022. Harold was a graduate of the FHS Class of 1980. He attended the Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He was an active citizen in the Fairview Park community. He volunteered for and supported numerous organizations in Fairview Park including the Fairview Park Education Foundation, Fairview Park Youth Association, the Fairview Alumni Association, Fairview Summerfest Committee, and the Fairview Park Senior Center. He was also active with the FHS volunteering at career fairs, FHS After Prom Committee, coaching mock trials, hosting homecoming float building for his children’s high school classes, and volunteering at the Fairview Track and Field Relays. He firmly believed that an individual can make a positive impact on the community and always wanted to do what he could to help future generations.
The $1000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding graduating senior who has academic achievement, as well as community and school participation and will be attending higher education. They show the capacity to make an outstanding contribution and impact on their community.
This year’s recipient is Megan Ramunno
Megan graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.04 GPA. She will major in Human Health Sciences on a Pre-Physical Therapy track at the University of Kentucky. Megan is President of the National Honor Society and is also a member of the Academic Team and Key Club. She played Volleyball, was a thrower for the Track & Field team and swam for the FHS Swim team. Megan set an exemplary example for others in regard to service. Spent a great deal of volunteer time with Youth Challenge, Children’s International Village and Youth of St. Angela’s.
Harold L. Hom Memorial Scholarship (Fairview Park Education Foundation) – Established in 2022 by the Fairview Park Education Foundation in memory of Harold L. Hom, a husband, father, and friend to many.
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who is active in contributing to the betterment of their community through volunteerism, acts of kindness, participation in organizations or clubs that promote leadership, kindness, selflessness, and devotion to helping people.
This year’s recipient is Grace Munro
Grace graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.47 GPA. She has been accepted to the Honors Program at Ohio University, where she will study Nursing. Grace is President of Key Club, Yearbook editor, Student Council class secretary, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. She played varsity Volleyball for 4 years, serving as team captain her senior season and she also ran Track for 4 years. Outside of school, she serves as President of her church youth group and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society. Inspired by the example of her grandmother who was a nurse, Grace has chosen to follow in her footsteps so that she too can help others.
Zuhair Jallad Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2019 in Zuhair’s name by his family to honor his memory. Zuhair passed away suddenly at the beginning of his senior year at Fairview High School in the fall of 2018. Zuhair was planning to pursue a career in computer science engineering and attend a four-year college. Zuhair’s biggest dream was to in some way make a difference in this world. Students applying for this scholarship should be enrolled in college credit plus courses and show financial need.
The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, and a desire to succeed.
This year’s recipient is Zoe Eigenbrod
Zoe graduates Cum Laude with a 3.72 GPA. She plans to attend Kent State University, studying Computer Science. While at FHS, Zoe was busy with many activities including FHS Student News, National Honor Society, GSA, and Stagecrafters. She also assisted the FPAC (sports boosters) with website maintenance. Zoe’s athletic involvement included the Golf and Bowling teams. She juggles volunteering with Girl Scouts and the Green Team with working part-time. Zoe’s long-range professional goal is to become a successful software engineer and eventually start her own tech company.
Robert V. and Rose T. Kundmueller Memorial Scholarship — Established originally as the Robert V. Kundmueller Memorial Scholarship in 1990 by the Kundmueller Family in memory of their father, Bob. The scholarship is also in memory of their mother, Rose, who passed away on November 14, 2014.
Bob and Rose became residents of the city of Fairview Park as newlyweds in 1955, raising six children who had all graduated from Fairview High School. Bob was a local Fairview Park business owner for many years.
Bob was the Fairview Park Education Foundation’s founding treasurer and trustee, a member of numerous civic organizations, and the 1987 Fairview Park Citizen of the Year recipient. Rose was actively involved in the PTA, and both were strong advocates and supporters of the Fairview Park City Schools.
The scholarship is funded on behalf of the proceeds totaling $108,000 from the Robert V. Kundmueller Memorial Golf Tournament. This was the Foundation’s first annual fundraiser that occurred for 18 years.
The scholarship in the amount of $3,000 is awarded to a student showing outstanding academic achievement, as well as, community and school participation.
This year’s recipient is Tessa Kelly
Tessa graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.44 GPA. She has selected The Ohio State University where she will study Exercise Science on a Pre-Physical Therapy Track. Tessa’s involvement throughout high school is truly remarkable. She is Class President, Vice President of National Honor Society, Co-President of FHA Peer Mediators, a Westshore Young Leader, and a member of Key Club. She is an outstanding athlete, competing at the Regional level in Track & Field and at the State level in Gymnastics. She has earned the College Board AP Scholar with distinction. Tessa’s long-term goal is to become a pediatric physical therapist, specifically working with special needs children.
Lewis F. Mayer Memorial Scholarship – Established in 1986 in memory of Lewis F. Mayer. He was the first superintendent of the Fairview Park City Schools, serving from 1921 to 1964. Mr. Mayer was a humanitarian of Fairview Park, educator, and principal in the Fairview Park City Schools.
The $500 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding senior who will be pursuing a career in the humanities.
This year’s recipient is Ryan Ginley
Ryan graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.15 GPA. He will attend Hiram College majoring in Political Science. Ryan was a member of the Academic Team and Presidents Council. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Ryan will explore the possibility of attending Law School or Graduate School to be a teacher.
Richard C. and Louise K. Nickerson Memorial Scholarship — Established in 2019 through a bequest of funding from the estate of Louise K. Nickerson. Ms. Nickerson worked her entire life and was successful at a job she loved even though she did not attend college. However, during her adult life she realized the importance of higher education, thus her request to help provide financial aid to students attending college.
Two $1,000 scholarships are to be awarded to students who have shown outstanding overall academic/community and school achievement. These scholarships will be awarded to students attending either a two-year or four-year college.
This year’s first recipient is Andrea Barbarine
Bella graduates Magna Cum Laude with a 3.79 GPA. She will be attending Cuyahoga Community College where she will enter the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. During her time at FHS, Bella was involved in Key Club, Softball and Volleyball. She was named captain of the Volleyball team her senior year. Bella also earned the AP Capstone Diploma and was named a GLC Scholar Athlete.
This year’s second recipient is Livia Kola
Livia graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.4 GPA. She will be attending The Ohio State University to study Biochemistry. It is her goal to attend Medical School to become a Radiologist. Livia was very busy during her high school years as a member of Student Council, Key Club, Marching Band, and National Honor Society. Additionally, Livia was a 4 year member of the Volleyball and Track & Field teams. Her honors include National Commended Scholar, FHS Scholar Athlete, GLC Scholar Athlete, AP Capstone Diploma, and AP Scholar with Distinction.
Richard Stuewe Memorial Scholarship (Fairview Park Education Foundation) — Established in 2019 by the Fairview Park Education Foundation in memory of Richard Stuewe. He was a graduate of FHS, teacher, counselor, and coach in the Fairview Park City Schools. He was an honored member of the Fairview Park Education Foundation and many other Fairview Park organizations.
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student with overall academic/community and school achievement.
This year’s recipient is Kelli Widman
Kelli graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.39 GPA. She will pursue an undergraduate degree in dietetics at Ashland University with the future goal of continuing her education in a Physician Assistant program. While at FHS, Kelli was involved in Student Council, Key Club, National Honor Society, Orchestra Council, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also played Volleyball and worked part-time. Kelli earned numerous awards including AP Scholar with Distinction, GLC Scholar Athlete and Solo & Ensemble Superior ratings.
Richard Stuewe Memorial Scholarship (Alumni Hall of Fame) — Originally established in 2015 by the Alumni Hall of Fame and renamed in 2019 in memory of Richard Stuewe. He was a friend of many, colleague, and FHS alumni. The Alumni Hall of Fame committee every three years honors three groups from the Fairview Park City Schools – distinguished alumni, outstanding former athletes, and exceptional (retired) faculty members.
The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior that is pursuing a degree in the field of education.
This year’s recipient is Grace Gray
Grace graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.28 GPA. She will be attending Kent State University to study Early Childhood Education and has been accepted into the Honors College at KSU. During high school, Grace was a member of Student Council, Drill Team, Soccer, and Swimming. She balanced all of this while working part-time. Grace was named captain of the soccer team her senior year and earned Scholar Athlete honors throughout her 4 years.
Debbie Tidwell Memorial Scholarship (Fairview Park Education Foundation ) –– Established in 2022 by the Fairview Park Education Foundation in memory of Debbie Tidwell, a wife, mother and friend to many. Debbie was a true education advocate of children in Fairview Park, as well as in the State of Ohio. She was an active PTA member in our local Fairview Park, as well as at the State of Ohio and National PTA level. She served as president of our Fairview Park PTA, and many other positions during her numerous PTA years. In addition, she served on the State and National PTA board and was the Ohio PTA President. She also served as a member of the Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education. She was an honored member of the Fairview Park Education Foundation and many other Fairview Park organizations.
The $1,000 scholarship is to be awarded to an outstanding male/female varsity soccer athlete showing great leadership, respect and acknowledgments for outstanding sportsmanship during their sports career. Community service and volunteerism is a plus when applying for this scholarship.
This year’s recipient is Quinn Kelly
Quinn graduates Summa Cum Laude with a 4.35 GPA. He will major in Finance at The Ohio State University. Quinn is a 2 year member of National Honor Society and was an Academic Team participant. He also was a 2 year member of the Bowling team and 4 year member of the Soccer and Track & Field teams. He was involved in Boy Scouts for many years, serving as Quarter Master and Patrol Leader and Quinn was captain of the Soccer and Bowling teams. His career goal includes becoming a financial advisor or stockbroker and eventually owning his own business.
